Our Strategy
"...Identifying opportunity and
implementing continual improvement to
reduce your energy bill..."
Business energy costs are continually rising. ACT
deliver significant cost effective reductions in terms of energy and
carbon savings to the manufacturing and process industry.

Our Business
"...our business is in assisting your business in
realising system efficiency - all the time..."
Air Compression Technology Limited (ACT) is an independent company who
specialise in working with businesses to
identify opportunity and improve the efficiency of their existing compressed air
and vacuum systems. ACT is independent
and its consultants are approved by The Carbon Trust via the Energy Institute's register of energy specialists to undertake
energy audits in this specialist field. The unique approach
and methodology adopted by ACT ensures that any opportunity for energy saving
through generation, treatment,
distribution, process use and wastage are all identified. ACT provide compressed
air and vacuum best practice training
along with implementation advice and on-going support.
Audits can be fully or partly funded through The Carbon Trust route and/or
training can be provided under local learning
skills funding routes. Audits are not undertaken unless there is evidence for
achieving cost effective energy and carbon
savings. As independent consultants ACT are able to work with the end-users best
interests at heart, without having to
satisfy any product sales targets.
ACT guarantee payback on any audit funding in terms of deliverable energy and
carbon savings.

Why Use ACT?
"...independent...experience...knowledge and a portfolio of satisfied
customers..."
Compressed air and vacuum can be seen as a significant ongoing cost to a
business. >10% of the UK grid is used to
generate compressed air while on average in UK industry >20% of compressed air
and vacuum usage is wasted.
Production and process usage is always susceptible to change. This has a direct
affect on the system efficiency.
Unchecked, whether operating a new or old system, will result in higher than
expected operational costs to the business.
ACT has
established itself within many Blue Chip organisations with experience
throughout Europe and Asia resulting in
significant 'all-up' cost reductions in both energy and maintenance directly
associated with the supply of compressed air
and vacuum.
Improvements can usually be achieved by introducing no or low cost corrective
methods. Should it be necessary to
introduce any changes in technology to achieve the desired aims - then clear
justification for this is provided by ACT and
following any implementation - quantified by ACT. The project management of the
compressed air supply to a business
can be cost effectively handled by ACT on the end users behalf to ensure that
the associated costs including maintenance
are managed effectively. This has proven to work well within group accounts
where existing group resources have been realised and utilised to meet changing business needs.
Most
audits carried out by manufacturers or distributors of products or services look
at the potential for a
"sale" rather than concentrating on and delivering a thorough audit. The cost
effective specialised independent auditing
work carried out by Air Compression Technology Ltd. covers all topic areas from
generation, treatment, distribution and
process usage including identification and quantification of any misuse and
wastage.

The ACT Difference
"...we don't stop once the audit
has been completed..."
Most businesses that commission compressed air or vacuum audits receive some
form of 'status report' with
recommendations. The end user is then left alone to implement the changes. This
often results, at best, in half the
required corrective action not being carried out.
Even if all the recommendations for improvement are carried out, then within a
short period of time, it has usually proven
that efficiency falls off due to changes in pattern of use. Commonly, new
compressor systems are introduced sometimes
with intelligent control following audit recommendations. It is still very rare
that post audit verification is carried out by
equipment suppliers to quantify the expenditure. Indeed it is very rare to find
follow through on periodical assessment to
establish and maintain the efficiency. Even systems with some form of permanent
monitoring often go unchecked due to
demands on staff - or with respect, the lack of ability to identify any change
or opportunity.
Unlike other businesses who commission compressed air and vacuum audits, ACT
provide a detailed report which is
explained and supported in a post audit briefing with the client. ACT then
continues to support and assist users in
implementing recommendations and finding methods of creating continual system
efficiency improvements. Should there
be a need to introduce new technology to optimise on system efficiency then ACT will quantify and verify any expenditure.

Continual Improvement with ACT
"...continual improvements to system efficiency can be created and supported.."
Uniquely ACT specialise in providing the necessary support to the end user in
this area by following through audits with a
real time presentation of the findings. Even after carrying out detailed audits
it has proven beneficial to both parties to
meet and assess the results together. Most business managers and engineers know their business needs and how their
business works - and surprisingly their areas of inefficiency. However, they usually do not realise how much they know
until they visualise the detail in the presentation. This methodology works
because it creates both awareness and the
opportunity for implementing continual improvement.
The only way to ensure that efficiency is maintained is to permanently adopt
some form of policing of the system. ACT
work in partnership with the end user to educate on and implement the correct
procedures. In a complete about turn the
end user 'wags the tail' when it comes to managing the compressed air system.
As demand changes, operational efficiency is affected and corrective action to
re-align the efficiency of the system can be
taken. No longer does the product supplier dictate their available product to
suit their 'interpretation' of the end users
requirements. With support from ACT the end user understands and dictates the
requirement for any change and more
importantly continues to observe and realise the benefit.
